Is an Accommodation Bond applicable?
Accommodation Bonds are applicable for Low Care or High Care Extra Services.

Accommodation Bonds are calculated on an asset-tested basis. The bond may vary depending on the prospective resident’s assets. Currently the bond is set at $200,000 – $400,000 depending on the level of assets. This is reviewed from time to time and may have increased at the time of admission.

The bond is subject to an annual retention of $3,360.00 for a period of five years. Your full bond, less any retention and accumulated unpaid interest, is repaid to you or your estate when you leave.

The bond does not have to be paid on admission. You have six months in which to pay the bond, but interest is charged for each day the bond is not paid – the interest rate charged is currently set at 8.11%. There are various options of paying an accommodation bond that are incorporated in the Residential Care Agreement which is offered on admission to Rosevale Court.

Any money placed in Accommodation Bonds is not subject to the Centrelink income test. As from 1st July 2005 Accommodation Bonds are exempt from the Centrelink assets test. Accordingly, in many instances, you can continue to receive the full pension (or your maximum pension entitlements) by choosing a higher Accommodation Bond option. You will also reduce or eliminate any means-tested fee.
